COASTAL LIVING WITH TRANSITIONAL STYLE

Rebecca Robeson of Robeson Design has a number of high-profile projects under her belt, but this Southern California project became one of the pinnacles of her interior design career. In an effort to design their home from the ground up, the homeowners provided Robeson with the blueprints and gave her free rein to design every last inch of their house. They wanted their home to reflect an eclectic merging of east and west coast style that would compel their family to make use of the home. Taking all of that into consideration, Robeson implemented a neutral color palette to support a contemporary yet modern design while mixing in a sophisticated blend of aged and architectural pieces throughout.

Southern California is widely known for its blue skies and sunny days, drawing people near and far to enjoy the indoor/outdoor lifestyle. To take advantage of this unique benefit, Robeson created a destination spot within the home itself for the family to escape to without ever having to leave. Surrounded by four walls with multiple doors to the interior of the home, the courtyard successfully brought the outdoors in and the indoors out by leaving the roof above the courtyard open. To give this space added character, Robeson applied Eldorado Stone’s Prescott Bluffstone to all four walls in an effort to add texture, color, and warmth to space rather than the typical stucco finish. Furthermore, Eldorado’s Cassis ModenaBrick was used on the courtyard’s grand fireplace, which extends all the way up the wall. Robeson stated that Eldorado Stone was the stone and brick of choice because it “looks legitimate but offers easy installation. Thus, it’s the perfect choice for outdoor spaces.”

In addition to bright flowers sprinkled throughout, there are several key pieces that bring character and life into this space like a rustic Pottery Barn mirror, aged clock, and a chevron-patterned black and white outdoor rug. In terms of fun surprise factors in this gorgeous courtyard, a potters table sits just below the Pottery Barn mirror that not only puts bright flowers on display, but also provides space for the homeowners to plant their own herbs. Lastly, Robeson covered the floor in wood tile and chose a teak table and chair set along with outdoor furniture that will eventually turn grey, only looking better with age.

Once finished, Robeson felt that the final result was nothing short of fabulous and successful in creating a beautiful oasis within this comfortable California home. To take a virtual tour of this home, click here.
