“The giant saguaro is the universal symbol of the American west. These majestic plants, found only in a small portion of the United States, are protected by Saguaro National Park…”- NPS.Gov

Saguaro National Park (NP) spans 140 miles and is split into two districts, just outside of Tucson, AZ. Declared first a National Monument in 1933, the purpose of the park was to preserve stands of Saguaro cacti from destruction. Since 2012, with the formation of the National Park Accessibility Task Force, a major goal of all National Parks is to provide accessibility for all visitors, to parks like Saguaro NP.

StaLok® Paving Material, provided by Stabilizer Solutions, Inc., solves the park’s accessibility problems. StaLok utilizes patented polymer technology and natural decomposed granite, creating a stable, waterproof surface that blends with the surrounding landscape’s natural appearance. StaLok also simplifies installation in areas where water is in limited supply. The material is installed simply by levelling and compacting, requiring no water or curing.

“We are pleased to be improving access through the historic cactus forest for all of our visitors. This project will make it easier for visitors with limited mobility to enjoy this iconic landscape and their backyard national park.”- Darla Sidles, Park Superintendent

StaLok Paving Material is utilized for accessible trail surfacing throughout the National Parks system including Yosemite NP, Glacier NP, Petrified Forest NP, Wupatki and Walnut Canyon National Monuments, among others.
