La Puente City Park
La Puente, CA, USA

Project Details

Location
La Puente, CA, USA

La Puente City Park is bustling with life on a Tuesday night. Newly revamped, one of the amenities that’s taken center stage is a strategically placed outdoor fitness area. Parents taking their children to the park frequently don’t have opportunities to engage in physical activity, but here at La Puente it’s easy for caregivers to get in a workout while keeping an eye on their kids at the adjacent playground. The City of La Puente reimagined the park and took it to the next level to serve the community.

Specifically, the fitness zone comprises three areas and includes 16 Professional Series units, three Legacy Series units, three Signature Accessible units for people in wheelchairs, and two kickboxing stations. These combine to give a well-rounded workout to the park goers. Custom designed shade structures also sit overhead to give relief from the sun.

The Professional Series units come equipped with adjustable resistance. These machines have 16 levels of resistance and can be adjusted to the user’s fitness level. They also come equipped with the SafeStop function, so there is no recoil should a younger park goer try out the equipment close to the playground.

The patented Signature Accessible units (U.S. Patent 11,130,039) at La Puente City Park also come equipped with adjustable resistance. These allow for people in wheelchairs to exercise alongside their able-bodied friends. These three machines are designed to both strengthen the upper body muscles used to propel manual wheelchairs, and also exercise the reverse muscles to help prevent injuries.

The Legacy Series units use a proportion of body weight for resistance. The units in La Puente can be used for strength training, stretching exercises, and much more.

The project also features two kickboxing stations, which a variety of exercises can be done on.

The City of La Puente revamped their park, and the community members came out to use the amenities.

“Community response to the equipment has been very good since the park opened in late June,” said Alex Bauman, Director of Community Services. “There have been people out here almost every morning, every afternoon, every evening using the equipment, and they’ve just been enjoying this fitness area that this park has to offer. Part of the community response that we’ve gotten is [that with] the location of the equipment right next to the playgrounds they can let the kids play on the playgrounds while they use the equipment.”
